Evaluate patients through clinical interviews, psychological assessments, and sometimes lab tests or brain imaging
Diagnose conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, and substance use disorders
Develop treatment plans combining medication management, psychotherapy (or referral to a therapist), and lifestyle recommendations
Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, etc.), adjusting dosages and watching for side effects
Provide psychotherapy directly in some cases (talk therapy, CBT, etc.)
Manage emergency/crisis situations, including risk assessment for suicide or self-harm
Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and primary care physicians.
