Key responsibilities:
Operate the drilling console — controls for the draw works, rotary table/top drive, mud pumps, and brakes
Supervise and direct the drill crew (derrickman, rotary helpers/roughnecks) during tripping, connections, and other floor operations
Monitor drilling parameters: weight on bit, rotary speed, torque, mud flow/pressure, and rate of penetration
Interpret drilling data to detect problems early — kicks, lost circulation, stuck pipe, equipment strain
Respond to well control situations (kicks, blowout risk) by executing shut-in procedures
Coordinate with the tool pusher, mud engineer, and other rig personnel
Maintain and inspect rig equipment, report defects.
