Core responsibilities:
Perform physical assessments, take vitals, and monitor growth/development milestones
Administer medications and vaccines (dosing calculated by weight — a key skill distinct from adult nursing)
Start IVs, draw blood, and manage lines in children, which requires specialized technique
Educate parents/caregivers on illness management, medication schedules, and home care
Support children and families through procedures, using age-appropriate communication and comfort techniques
Recognize and respond to signs of abuse or neglect.
