Typical responsibilities:
Assess patients: take medical + psychiatric histories, review symptoms, and perform mental status exams.
Diagnose conditions: determine conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, PTSD, substance use disorders, etc.
Develop treatment plans: create individualized care plans that may include:Prescribing and managing medications
Therapy referrals (or providing therapy if trained)
Lifestyle/behavioral recommendations and coping strategies
Coordination with psychologists, therapists, social workers, and primary care
Follow up and monitor progress: track symptoms, side effects, adherence, and treatment response.
