Key responsibilities / duties
Operate excavators (tracked and wheeled) for excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling.
Read and follow site plans, stakeouts, and instructions from supervisors/foremen.
Perform daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, visual inspections); report defects and arrange repairs.
Position and secure excavators on slopes and confined areas; use attachments (buckets, thumbs, breakers, grapples) as required.
Load and unload trucks, place pipe, assist in utility installation, and perform demolition tasks safely.
Work with ground crews to guide digging operations, maintain proper slopes/grades, and avoid underground utilities.
Keep work area tidy and perform final cleanup of excavated material and debris.
Maintain accurate equipment logs, fuel usage, and time sheets as required.
