Key responsibilities / duties
Safely operate excavators (mini, midi, standard, or long-reach) and attachments (buckets, augers, breakers, thumbs, grapples).
Read and interpret plans, grades, benchmarks, and stake markings to excavate to specified depths, slopes, and elevations.
Dig trenches, foundations, footings, and ponds; load trucks and stockpile materials.
Perform routine inspections (fluids, filters, tracks/tires, hydraulic lines, couplers) and conduct minor maintenance (cleaning, greasing, refilling fluids); report defects.
Set up and use machine control/GPS or grade guidance systems where provided.
Coordinate with spotters, laborers, and other equipment operators to ensure efficient, safe work sequences.
Install and remove trench protective systems or assist a competent person in shoring/sloping operations as required.
