Measuring and marking reference points; calculating angles and checking vertical/horizontal alignment using levels, plumb lines, and straightedges.
Mixing mortar (cement, sand, lime, water) to the correct consistency for the job.
Laying bricks/blocks/stone in courses, applying mortar with a trowel, embedding units, and removing excess mortar.
Cutting and shaping bricks/blocks/stone with hand tools (hammers, chisels, bolsters) and power tools (masonry saws).
Constructing cavity walls, retaining walls, chimney stacks, arches, decorative brickwork, and other structural or ornamental features.
