Primary Responsibilities
Conduct thorough pre-operation (and often post-operation) inspections of the crane, including hydraulic systems, cables/wire ropes, hooks, brakes, outriggers, controls, load charts, and safety devices.
Determine load weights and verify them against the crane’s lifting capacity and load charts to prevent overloading.
Operate controls (levers, pedals, dials) to lift, swing, boom out/in, raise/lower, and precisely position loads.
Communicate closely with riggers, signal persons, and ground crew using hand signals, radios, or other methods; follow lift plans.
