Well planning & design — Develop drilling programs including well trajectory, casing design, bit selection, and drilling fluid (mud) programs
Cost estimation & budgeting — Prepare AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure) and track drilling costs against budget
Risk assessment — Identify potential hazards (pressure zones, formation instability, lost circulation) and design mitigation plans
Rig operations support — Work with rig supervisors/company men to troubleshoot problems during drilling in real time
Equipment selection — Choose drill bits, drill strings, BOPs (blowout preventers), and other downhole tools
Data analysis — Review drilling reports, mud logs, and offset well data to optimize performance.
