Core responsibilities
Operate excavators (and often related heavy equipment like backhoes, bulldozers, or loaders) to dig trenches, foundations, holes, and other excavations
Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and grade stakes to dig to precise depths and dimensions
Move earth, rock, and debris; load trucks; clear and grade land
Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections (fluid levels, hydraulics, tracks, attachments)
Handle routine maintenance and report mechanical issues
Coordinate with ground crew, surveyors, and site supervisors using hand signals or radios.
