Job Details
Install, repair and finish brick, block, stone, and other masonry materials for walls, partitions, chimneys, foundations and other structures. Work from drawings or instructions, prepare mortar, lay units to proper alignment/level, cut materials as needed, and finish joints.
Key responsibilities:
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
Prepare layout, set lines, levels and batter boards.
Mix mortar to required consistency and apply to units.
Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry units in running bond, stacked bond, and other patterns.
Cut and shape masonry units using hand and power tools.
Install reinforcement, ties, flashings and weep systems.
Point, tuck, rake and finish mortar joints for weatherproofing and appearance.
Repair and repoint existing masonry; replace damaged units.
Clean and finish surfaces; apply sealants or coatings as required.
Required skills & attributes:
Strong hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity and steady workmanship.
Good understanding of geometry and basic math for layout and quantities.
Ability to read plans, measure accurately and use levels/plumb lines.
Attention to detail for even joints, consistent bond patterns and finishes.
Physical stamina: standing, kneeling, lifting, and working at heights.
Reliability, punctuality and ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
Communication and teamwork skills.
