Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate patients through interviews, medical/psychiatric histories, mental status exams, physical examinations, and psychological testing. They diagnose conditions (using frameworks like the DSM-5-TR), develop individualized treatment plans, prescribe and monitor medications (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers), provide or coordinate psychotherapy (such as CBT or supportive therapy), and adjust care based on progress.
Education and Skills includes: High school Diploma or equivalent, diagnostic reasoning, knowledge of psychopharmacology and medical conditions that affect mental health, empathy, strong communication and listening, emotional resilience, cultural competence, and the ability to work under stress or with complex/comorbid cases.
