Key responsibilities:
Provide psychotherapy or integrated care.
Conduct crisis intervention and manage psychiatric emergencies (suicide risk, acute psychosis).
Coordinate care with primary care, therapists, social workers, and other specialists.
Maintain accurate medical records and document treatment decisions.
Provide family/caregiver education and support.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and hospital rounds.
Core skills & Education; Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent).
Risk assessment (suicide, violence, self-harm).
Strong communication, empathy, and rapport-building.
Cultural competence and trauma-informed care.
Ability to work in teams and collaborate with non-physician providers.
Documentation, time management, and ethical/legal awareness.
Resilience and good self-care—psychiatry can be emotionally demanding.
