Diagnose mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, eating disorders, addiction, etc.)
Conduct psychiatric evaluations, including reviewing medical history and ordering lab work or brain imaging when needed to rule out physical causes
Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, etc.), monitoring for effectiveness and side effects
Provide psychotherapy (talk therapy) in some cases, though many refer patients to psychologists/therapists for ongoing therapy while managing medication themselves.
