Key responsibilities / duties:
Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, stake marks, and grade/slope instructions.
Position and stabilize machine, select and install attachments (buckets, thumbs, hydraulic breakers, augers), and perform basic setup.
Spot for and work with other crew members (spotters, laborers, truck drivers) to load/unload materials and set pipe/footings.
Perform pre- and post-shift machine inspections; check fluid levels, tracks/tires, hydraulic hoses, and safety equipment; report defects.
Conduct basic preventative maintenance (cleaning, greasing, replacing filters as trained) or coordinate equipment maintenance with mechanics.
Follow site safety rules, traffic control, and environmental protections (erosion control, spill prevention).
Operate safely around utilities, other equipment, and personnel; follow trenching/excavation and shoring requirements.
