Core Responsibilities
System reliability: Monitor, maintain, and improve uptime of production services; respond to incidents and outages
Performance optimization: Identify and fix bottlenecks in latency, throughput, and resource usage
Automation: Build tools/scripts to eliminate manual, repetitive operational work
Capacity planning: Forecast infrastructure needs and scale systems ahead of demand
Incident response: Participate in on-call rotations; diagnose and resolve production issues, often under time pressure
Deployment & CI/CD: Manage release pipelines, rollout strategies, rollback procedures.
