Well Planning & Design
Design drilling programs: well trajectory, casing design, mud/fluid programs, cementing plans
Select drill bits, drilling fluids, and equipment suited to the geology
Estimate drilling costs and timelines, and prepare AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure)
Operational Oversight
Supervise day-to-day drilling operations, often coordinating with rig site supervisors (company men/toolpushers)
Monitor drilling parameters (weight on bit, rotary speed, mud weight, pressure) in real time
Troubleshoot problems: stuck pipe, lost circulation, well control issues, equipment failure.
