Typical duties
Read blueprints, drawings, or specifications to determine weld type and joint design
Select the right welding equipment, technique, and filler material for the job
Set up, calibrate, and maintain welding machines
Cut and shape metal (sometimes using plasma or oxy-fuel cutters) before welding
Inspect finished welds for strength, appearance, and defects
Follow safety protocols (ventilation, protective gear, fire prevention)
Repair or maintain machinery, structures, or vehicles.
