Core responsibilities
Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, mobilising.
Take and record basic observations: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, fluid intake/output, and report changes.
Help with patient transfers and positioning; use safe manual handling techniques and equipment.
Support wound care, personal hygiene and continence management as directed by nursing staff.
Monitor patients for pain, distress or deterioration and escalate promptly.
Prepare and maintain a clean, safe patient environment (bed-making, cleaning equipment, restocking supplies).
Assist with specimen collection and transport as instructed.
Document care given accurately in patient records and handover information at shift change.
Qualification, Required skills and attributes:
High school Diploma or equivalent, Empathy, patience, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Observational skills and ability to spot clinical changes.
Teamwork and willingness to take direction from nursing staff.
Basic numeracy and literacy for record-keeping.
Physical fitness and stamina; ability to safely lift/move patients with aids.
Time management and ability to prioritise tasks in a busy ward.
