Installs, inspects, maintains and repairs electrical systems and equipment on offshore installations (oil & gas platforms, floating production units, wind farms, vessels). Work focuses on safety-critical electrical distribution, motors, control systems, instrumentation interfaces and preventative/reactive maintenance.
Carry out routine and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and rotating equipment (motors, starters, drives).
Troubleshoot and repair faults in power distribution, control, and instrumentation circuits.
Test electrical systems using appropriate test equipment (multimeter, insulation tester/“megger”, loop/earth testers).
Required qualifications & skills
Formal electrical qualification (e.g., Electrician apprenticeship, NVQ/City & Guilds, trade certificate, or equivalent).
Power distribution systems up to platform/vessel voltage levels; understanding of single- and three-phase systems.
Hands-on experience with switchgear, MCCs, starters, soft starters, VFDs and protection relays.
Competent reading of electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, P&IDs and cable schedules.
Basic instrumentation and control knowledge (sensors, relays, PLC I/O fundamentals) and ability to liaise with instrumentation engineers.
Familiarity with testing equipment and safe test procedures.
