Psychiatrist

Typical responsibilities:

Create and manage individualized treatment plans (medications, psychotherapy referrals, psychosocial interventions).
Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications; manage side effects and interactions.
Provide psychotherapy (varies by practice—some psychiatrists provide ongoing therapy, others focus on medication management).
Manage acute psychiatric crises (inpatient admissions, emergency consultations, stabilization).
Consult with other medical teams (consult-liaison work) and community providers.
Maintain clinical documentation, discharge planning, and compliance with legal/ethical requirements.
Supervise trainees and other mental health staff (in academic or larger clinical settings).
