Core Responsibilities:
Rig operation: Running the drilling rig — controlling rotation speed, weight on the drill bit, and drilling fluid (mud) circulation
Crew supervision: Directing roughnecks/rig hands, coordinating tasks during drilling operations, tripping pipe in and out of the hole
Monitoring: Watching gauges and instruments for pressure, torque, depth, and drilling fluid properties to catch problems early (kicks, stuck pipe, lost circulation)
Safety: Enforcing safety protocols, running blowout preventer (BOP) drills, ensuring PPE compliance
Maintenance: Basic upkeep and troubleshooting of rig equipment
Record-keeping: Logging drilling parameters, depths, formations encountered, and incidents.
