Core responsibilities:
Prepare treatment rooms and instruments; set up trays for procedures.
Assist dentist chairside during exams and procedures (hand instruments, suctioning, retracting).
Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays) if certified/authorized.
Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment; follow OSHA/CDC infection-control protocols.
Obtain and record patient medical/dental histories and vital signs.
Prepare dental materials (impressions, temporary restorations) and pour/trim models as needed.
Provide pre- and post-operative instructions and patient education (oral hygiene, postop care).
Maintain and update patient charts and electronic dental records (EMR).
Schedule appointments, process billing/insurance claims, collect payments (if part of role).
Order and maintain inventory of dental supplies.
Qualification, Key skills and attributes
High school diploma or equivalent. Clinical: chairside assistance, radiography, impressions, infection control.
Technical: familiarity with dental software/EMR (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft), digital x-ray systems.
Soft skills: excellent communication, patient empathy, teamwork, attention to detail, manual dexterity.
Administrative: scheduling, basic billing/insurance knowledge, inventory management.
Physical: ability to stand for extended periods, lift small items, perform fine motor tasks.
