Core duties:
Perform pre- and post-shift inspections (fluids, filters, tracks/tires, hydraulics, lights, safety devices) and report defects.
Complete basic maintenance: top off fluids, grease fittings, change filters (when qualified), clean machine.
Follow site safety protocols: lockout/tagout, trench/shoring rules, confined space procedures, traffic control, and PPE use.
Work with crew (spotters, laborers, foremen) to position loads and perform rigging and signaling for lifts.
Keep basic site logs (hours, machine hours, fuel, issues) and complete required paperwork.
Adhere to environmental and site-specific requirements (spill prevention, dust control, erosion control).
Required skills & competencies
Proficient machine control and operation for specific equipment assigned.
Safe rigging, signalling, and basic knowledge of lifting limits.
Ability to read construction drawings, grade stakes, simple blueprints, and use measuring tools.
Mechanical aptitude for inspection and troubleshooting, and ability to follow maintenance schedules.
Good spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and situational awareness.
Communication and teamwork; ability to follow a supervisor and coordinate with ground personnel.
