Core responsibilities:
Prepare and mix mortar to correct consistency.
Lay bricks, concrete block, stone, tile and other masonry units in courses.
Align and level masonry using line, level and plumb tools; check layout and make adjustments.
Cut and shape masonry units with hand and power tools.
Build structural and non-structural walls, veneers, chimneys, arches, steps and foundations.
Install reinforcement, anchors and flashing; apply sealants and waterproofing as required.
Required skills includes: Ability to read basic construction drawings and measure accurately.
Competence with trowels, jointers, levels, chisels, hammers, masonry saws and mixers.
Basic math (ratios, measurements, area/volume calculations).
Physical stamina and dexterity; good balance and coordination.
Problem solving for irregular surfaces and unexpected site conditions.
Teamwork, communication and time-management.
