Key responsibilities:
Perform pre-shift and pre-lift inspections (boom, wire rope, blocks, controls, outriggers, safety devices).
Calculate load weights, rigging arrangements, center-of-gravity, radius and boom angle; confirm lift capacity.
Select, inspect and attach rigging (slings, shackles, spreader bars) and work with riggers/signal persons.
Communicate with crew using hand signals or radio; follow a designated signal person when required.
Follow site lift plans, tag lines, exclusion zones and swing-radius protection.
Report defects, complete daily logs/inspection records, and secure equipment after use.
Typical qualifications & skills
High school diploma or equivalent, Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness.
Load-math (weights, radii, capacities) and reading technical docs.
Attention to detail, concentration for long periods, good hand–eye coordination.
Clear radio and hand-signal communication; teamwork.
Situational awareness and strong commitment to safety.
