Heavy Equipment Operator

Core duties & responsibilities:

Safely operate assigned heavy equipment to perform grading, excavation, loading/unloading, trenching, backfilling, compaction, and site clearing.
Perform pre-start and post-shift inspections; report defects and perform minor maintenance (lubrication, fluid checks, replacing filters) or coordinate repairs with mechanics.
Read and follow blueprints, grade stakes, and survey controls; interpret basic layout and elevation information.
Position equipment, set grades, and make accurate cuts/fills to specifications.
Maintain clear communication with spotters, ground personnel, foremen, and other operators using hand signals, radios, and site protocols.

Typical qualifications & skills

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, Excellent hand–eye coordination and spatial awareness.
Ability to read basic site plans and grade information.
Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
