Perform drilling engineering calculations: hydraulics, torque & drag, equivalent circulating density (ECD), wellbore stability, pressure limits, fracture gradients, and load analyses.
Create and review drilling programs, well plans, and risk assessments (HAZID/HAZOP, job safety analyses).
Monitor drilling operations in real time: performance, torque/drag, ROP, fluid returns, and stuck-pipe indicators; advise on corrective actions.
Manage drilling contractors and service companies; review and approve daily drilling reports and time sheets.
Optimize drilling performance: reduce non-productive time (NPT), improve ROP, select bits/BHA, recommend drilling parameters.
Required education & skills
Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical/Civil Engineering, or equivalent, Drilling engineering fundamentals: well control, mud systems, casing design, cementing.
Well hydraulics, torque & drag, casing/tubing stress analysis.
Familiarity with directional drilling BHA, mud motor, rotary steerable tools.
