Carpenter

Job Summary

Measure, cut, shape, assemble and install wood, plywood, wallboard and related materials.
Construct, install and repair frameworks and structures (e.g., stairways, door frames, partitions).
Install cabinets, molding, trim and interior finish work.
Build and set forms for concrete (for form carpenters).
Select appropriate materials and fasteners; ensure precision and fit.
Operate hand and power tools safely (saws, planers, routers, nail guns, chisels).
Coordinate with general contractors, other trades and clients on-site.
Inspect and replace damaged framework or fixtures; perform maintenance.

Required skills and qualities

Strong measuring and mathematical skills; ability to read plans and calculate cuts.
Proficient with common carpentry hand and power tools.
Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship (especially for finish carpenters).
Physical stamina and dexterity; comfortable working at heights and in various weather.
Problem-solving and layout skills.
Good communication and teamwork.
