Key responsibilities / duties
Restore teeth (fillings, crowns, bridges), perform extractions, root canals (endodontics), and periodontal treatments.
Provide preventive care: cleanings (if hygienist unavailable), fluoride treatments, sealants, patient education on oral hygiene.
Take and interpret dental X-rays and other diagnostic tests.
Administer local anesthesia and manage patient pain/anxiety; refer for sedation or GA when required.
Prescribe medications (antibiotics, analgesics) and manage medication interactions.
Coordinate and refer to dental specialists (orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists, prosthodontists) as needed.
Oversee dental hygienists, assistants and administrative staff; ensure infection control and OSHA/health-regulation compliance.
Maintain accurate patient records, charting, treatment consent, and billing documentation.
