Job Details

Plan lifts: read lift plans, calculate load weights, determine center of gravity, choose appropriate rigging gear and lift points.
Install and attach rigging: select and connect slings, shackles, wire rope, synthetic slings, spreader bars, etc.
Operate and coordinate lifting equipment: signal/spot for crane operators, operate hoists or winches when required.
Inspect and maintain rigging gear: pre-use inspections, log defects, remove damaged equipment from service.
Secure loads for transport: block, bridle, and secure cargo for ships, trucks, or storage.
Follow and enforce safety procedures: lockout/tagout, fall protection, confined-space awareness, permit compliance.
Communicate with team and supervisors: read blueprints/rigging diagrams, follow lift supervisors and OSHA guidelines.

Skills & qualifications:

Practical skills: knot-tying, sling selection, load calculation, signaling (standard hand signals), mechanical advantage systems.
Physical: able to lift heavy loads, work at heights, climb, kneel, and work outdoors in variable conditions.
Soft skills: teamwork, communication, attention to detail, ability to follow lift plans and permits.
Education: no formal education is required.
