Core responsibilities:
Evaluate patients through clinical interviews, psychological assessments, and sometimes physical exams
Diagnose conditions (depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, substance use disorders, eating disorders, etc.)
Develop treatment plans — often combining medication management with therapy referrals or direct psychotherapy
Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, etc.), adjusting for side effects and effectiveness
Coordinate care with psychologists, therapists, social workers, and primary care physicians.
