Design well drilling programs (casing design, mud programs, bit selection, drilling fluid specs)
Select drilling rigs, equipment, and technology suited to well conditions
Estimate drilling time, costs, and prepare budgets/AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure)
Monitor drilling operations in real time (often via remote ops centers or on-site)
Manage well control, pressure management, and prevent blowouts/kicks
Coordinate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and completion engineers
Troubleshoot drilling problems (stuck pipe, lost circulation, wellbore instability)
Ensure compliance with HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) regulations.
