Typical duties & responsibilities
Administer medications, IV fluids, and vaccines; calculate and verify pediatric doses.
Insert/maintain IVs and other lines, monitor infusion pumps, and care for central lines per protocol.
Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition; escalate to physicians and call rapid response as needed.
Provide wound care, dressing changes, and other procedures within scope of practice.
Deliver family‑centered education (meds, feeding, discharge instructions, home care).
Coordinate multidisciplinary care with physicians, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists, and pharmacists.
Prepare patients and families for tests, surgeries, and procedures; provide emotional support.
Perform neonatal/new born assessments when applicable and support breastfeeding/new born care.
Qualification, Knowledge & skills
High school Diploma or equivalent,
Clinical: Pediatric assessment, pediatric dosing and weight‑based calculations, IV/central line care, airway management basics, common pediatric conditions (respiratory illnesses, dehydration, congenital conditions, infections).
Technical: Comfortable with EHRs, infusion pumps, monitors, and point‑of‑care testing.
Soft skills: Clear communication with children and families, patience, emotional resilience, teamwork, cultural sensitivity, teaching ability.
