Heavy Equipment Operator

Operates and maintains heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, compactors, cranes) to move materials, grade surfaces, dig trenches, and perform other site-preparation and construction tasks while following safety and project specifications.

Primary responsibilities / duties:

Safely operate assigned heavy equipment to perform grading, excavation, backfill, loading/unloading, trenching, compaction, and material handling.
Read and follow site plans, blueprints, survey stakes, grade elevations, and verbal instructions from supervisors or foremen.
Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and routine maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, minor repairs) and report defects.
Grade and level surfaces to specified tolerances; set up/evaluate slopes, benching, and drainage as required.
Load and unload materials from trucks; place materials per plan and equipment limits.
Coordinate with ground crew and signal persons; follow established hand signals and/or radio procedures.
Keep accurate equipment logs and inspection records.

Required skills & Qualifications includes; high school Diploma,  Proven ability to safely operate one or more types of heavy equipment (excavator, dozer, loader, grader, backhoe, roller, crane).
Strong situational awareness and ability to operate safely in crowded or constrained sites.
Basic mechanical aptitude for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Ability to read basic plans, grades, and survey stakes.
Good communication and teamwork skills; ability to follow instructions and work with crews.
