Main responsibilities:
Prepare drilling programmes, well designs, procedures, and operational schedules.
Select casing sizes, setting depths, cementing plans, drill bits, drill strings, bottom-hole assemblies, and drilling fluids.
Perform engineering calculations involving well control, hydraulics, torque and drag, pressure limits, casing design, and wellbore stability.
Review geological, reservoir, and offset-well data when planning a new well.
Select suitable rigs, equipment, materials, and specialist service companies.
Estimate well costs, prepare budgets and authorizations for expenditure, and monitor actual costs.
Supervise or provide technical support during drilling operations, either from the office or at the rig site.
