Typical duties and responsibilities:

Prepare and organize dental trays, materials, and impressions; mix dental materials (cements, alginate) as needed.
Record treatment notes, update patient charts, and enter clinical data into practice management software.
Assist with patient intake: medical history review, vital signs (if required), and patient education on oral hygiene and post-op care.
Schedule appointments, verify insurance/eligibility, and prepare treatment/consent forms.
Order and inventory supplies, manage lab cases (crowns/partials), and coordinate with dental laboratories.

Required education and skills such as:  High school diploma or equivalent,  Clinical: chairside technique, radiography, infection control, dental materials handling.
Technical: practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft), digital x-ray systems, intraoral scanners (in some offices).
Interpersonal: patient communication, empathy, ability to calm anxious patients.
Organizational: time management, inventory control, accurate charting.
