Core Responsibilities:
Well planning & design — Developing detailed drilling programs, including well trajectory, casing design, bit selection, and mud (drilling fluid) programs
Cost estimation & budgeting — Preparing AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure) and tracking drilling costs against budget
Risk assessment — Identifying potential hazards (well control issues, formation instability, high pressure/high temperature zones) and designing mitigation strategies
Rig site supervision — Providing technical support to rig crews, sometimes with rotations to the field
Equipment selection — Specifying drilling rigs, bits, mud motors, casing, cementing programs, and other tools.
