Well planning & design — creating drilling programs: well trajectory, casing design, mud (drilling fluid) program, bit selection, and cementing plans
Cost & time estimation — building AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure) and drilling schedules
Risk management — identifying hazards like pressure kicks, wellbore instability, lost circulation, and designing mitigation plans
Rig site supervision — coordinating with rig crews, mud engineers, directional drillers, and geologists during operations (often remotely or on rotation)
Real-time monitoring — tracking drilling parameters (ROP, torque, pressure) and troubleshooting problems as they arise.
